  • Devotees from India and abroad paid obeisance at the Samadhi and sought the blessings of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji

The sacred Darbar Sahib in Dehradun was immersed in devotion, reverence and spiritual faith on Saturday as it observed the 340th Mahanirvan Parv of Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj. The recitation of Gurbani, thousands of devotees bowing in reverence at the Guru’s feet and the deeply devotional atmosphere filled the entire premises with spiritual energy. Devotees from various parts of India and abroad paid obeisance at the Samadhi of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji, offered their devotion and sought His divine grace and blessings.

On the occasion of the Mahanirvan Parv, Sajjada Gaddi Nashin Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, of Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj, performed special prayers and rituals and remembered the glory of the Guru. Addressing the Sangat, he highlighted the importance of Guru Bhakti and Guru Kripa and said that the Guru is the manifest form of the Supreme Divine. He said that through the knowledge and guidance of the Guru, a person can progress on the path towards God-realisation. Without the Guru, the spiritual journey remains incomplete, and it is through the Guru’s grace that a disciple’s life becomes meaningful and blessed.

On the occasion of the Mahanirvan Parv, Tarpan was offered to Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj on the banks of the sacred pond (Talab) located within the Shri Jhande Ji premises. Thereafter, 17 priests performed the traditional rituals using rice, milk, honey, Gangajal, ghee and sugar. During the religious ceremonies, the glory and teachings of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji were remembered. Following the prayers, fruit Prasad was distributed among the Sangat and a special Langar was organised.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of India and abroad arrived at Shri Darbar Sahib to participate in the Mahanirvan Parv. Devotees paid obeisance at the Samadhi of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji and prayed for peace, prosperity and the well-being of their families. On the occasion, Halwa-Puri and Churma Prasad were also distributed among the devotees. The spirit of Guru Bhakti and Seva remained visible across the premises throughout the day.

For the convenience and service of the devotees, a medical team from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital was also deployed at the venue. The team provided necessary healthcare services to the Sangat. The Mahanirvan Parv conveyed the message of devotion, service, faith and dedication to the Guru, while inspiring devotees to embrace the spirit of service and human welfare.

It is noteworthy that Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj was born in 1646 CE on the fifth day of the month of Chaitra and arrived in Dehradun in 1676 CE. Shri Guru Maharaj Ji sanctified Dehradun by making it His place of work and spiritual activities. It is believed that the city came to be known as Dehradun after His dera (camp/settlement). On Bhadra Sudi 8, Samvat 1744 (4 September 1687), while meditating upon the Almighty, He merged into the Supreme Divine. Considering the soul of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji to be eternal, the Sangat has continued to serve and maintain His Samadhi. Since then, the day has been observed every year as the Mahanirvan Parv with deep faith and reverence.
On the occasion, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj prayed for the happiness, prosperity and peace of the people of the country and for the continued showering of Guru Kripa upon all.
